Twitter Means Business – Book Review

I just completed perusing “Twitter Implies Business: How micro-blogging can support or hurt you company” by Julio Ojeda-Zapata. As a large Twitter fan and professional blogger I am constantly reading about how this instrument could support enterprise. I have go through many titles on this topic but this is one of the very best.

As the identify suggests, this is all about how you can use Twitter to assist your organization. After perusing this you will comprehend the how and the why you should be making use of this effective medium. The book is published in a very easy to recognize conversational tone. The guide is little and compact but is made up of a ton of helpful data.

The book is published with every firm employed as a scenario review of how they are employing this platform efficiently. A lot of businesses are represented, such as Starbucks and H&ampR Block. Following the explanation of every single firm, the writer concludes with an critical lesson that the situation examine illustrates. It was extremely exciting to see how these businesses are creatively using Twitter. For instance some firms really use it as their customer support backbone, while others use it for public relations and products marketing.

The most useful chapter to me was the a single that coated the twitter associated service sites that have been popping up. There had been numerous websites that I never ever heard about that I will be making use of.

In closing, I suggest this guide for anyone that is interested in the issue of social media. It is a very fascinating speedy study and you will definitely find out something as properly.

The High Cost of a Six-figure Book Advance

The six-figure book advance, like the New York Instances bestseller, is the object of many a writer’s fantasy. Regardless of whether it’s also a realistic target is a thing else yet again.
&#thirteen

*Can you actually get a six-figure guide advance?*
&#thirteen

When Susan Page wrote *The Shortest Distance In between You and a Published Book* in 1997, she included the following listing of the qualities that you and your guide have to have if you’re going to get a six-figure advance.
&#thirteen

1.Your book is on a topic of vast basic curiosity that could excite a big number of viewers.
&#thirteen

2.Your guide has a distinctive angle and can make an original contribution to its subject.
&#thirteen

three. You have considerable credentials to publish on this topic OR you have a co-author who does, OR you can get an very popular, properly-credentialed individual to create a foreword for you.
&#thirteen

4.You have prepared an extraordinary proposal and are operating with a capable editor already.
&#thirteen

five.You have a present-stopping title.

6.You secure the solutions of a nicely-identified, experienced agent who believes the guide can generate such an advance.
&#thirteen

seven. You are the two willing and ready to advertise your book on radio and Television and in print.

This is not a combine-and-match record. You have to have *all* of individuals factors to get the massive advance, unless you are an worldwide celebrity or a greatest-marketing writer.
&#thirteen

Page’s aim was to deflate unrealistic expectations. Her book aims to get you into print, not always to get you rich. Most authors do not get abundant from their publications. Most publishers really don’t get abundant either. Book publishing is an market in which there is extremely little revenue. If authors get abundant, it is usually due to the fact obtaining a guide lets them offer high-priced services and book high-spending speaking gigs.
&#thirteen

*You can get a six-figure advance, but it will cost you.*

And I do not indicate the 7 value tag on Susan Harrow’s new e-guide, Get a 6-Figure Guide Advance. A investment is nothing at all if it gets you a ,000 return. Employing the proposal template/computer software integrated with her 7 e-book, you’ll be capable to create the variety of proposal that will have publishers in hot pursuit—but getting the advance calls for a total great deal much more than just acquiring the guide or even having all the appropriate elements in your proposal.

*If you want a six-figure guide advance, you’re heading to have to work for it.*
&#thirteen

Susan Harrow, jokingly recognized as a “de-motivational coach,” does not try out to pretend otherwise. In her August 4th teleclass, co-hosted by ghostwriter Mahesh Grossman of the Authors Group, she created it obvious just how much work goes into getting a 6-figure advance, and how long and challenging you have to keep operating *soon after* you get the money.
&#thirteen

*How developments work*
&#thirteen

In buy to persuade publishers to spend you ,000 or much more prior to your book is printed, you have to persuade them that your book will promote at minimum 100,000 copies. (Your royalty will be about /guide for a trade paperback, quite possibly as much as /book for a hardcover, so you do the math.) And considering that publications really don’t sell themselves, what you’re actually stating to the publisher is that *you* can market these one hundred,000 copies.
&#thirteen

Yes, a publisher that invests that significantly income in you will also invest far more in the production and advertising and marketing of your guide than in someone who will get a scaled-down advance, but when you get right down to it, no a single actually buys a book because of its publisher. And your book will not market just since it’s a good book. Individuals almost never purchase non-fiction textbooks for the quality of the composing. They purchase for the top quality of the information—and in the thoughts of the public, that is dependent on the knowledge and reputation of the author. It all comes back to you.
&#thirteen

*How do you get visitors to assume of you as an skilled?*

1st, they have to know you exist. If you’re not already a celebrity, you’re heading to have to turn into one particular, or at least set up a convincing display. If you do not have legions of followers, you really should at least have 1000′s of subscribers to your e-zine or blog, or a syndicated column in a newspaper. If you haven’t been on Oprah or The Nowadays Indicate yet, radio interviews and nearby Television news applications are a very good start off.

*Acquiring into the public eye*

To get visible sufficient quickly ample, you most likely will need a publicist, which implies shelling out a number of thousand bucks. In order for media focus to do you any great, you have to appear good and sound excellent each time you show up. That indicates acquiring professional media coaching before you start off lining up interviews to make up for not currently being a celebrity. You want to arm by yourself with a repertoire of sound bites for all events and rehearse till you can spout them in your rest.
&#thirteen

That doesn’t just take cash, it will take time. It requires *function*. And no 1 can do it for you, both, because you, as the writer, have to be the one in the limelight.

*Editing is vital for a killer proposal.*
&#thirteen

Media coaches and publicists are not the only group members you are going to have to enlist if you want a 6-figure advance and a book that justifies it. The providers of a professional editor are important for equally your proposal and your finished book. In fact, you might just want to hire a ghostwriter and get it about with, simply because you’re possibly going to be too hectic advertising and marketing to create.

That is far more funds put in in advance of acquiring your advance.

*Publish-publication publicity*

You are not by way of but, both. Now that you have gotten ample media focus for by yourself to impress a publisher, you have to do it over once again for your book. You’re going to have to shell out a excellent-sized chunk of that advance on your own publicity efforts. Far more and much more publishing houses assume that your advance *is* the advertising and marketing price range for the guide, so they assume you to spend your own income on getting the guide offered. (Suggestion: when mentioning this in your proposal, constantly make the give contingent on the publisher matching the volume.) This expectation in fact retains genuine irrespective of the dimension of your advance, but the a lot more money you want to get, the far more money you have to spend.
&#thirteen

*6-figure improvements are not for the faint of heart*

Composing a good book is the least of the problems dealing with you when you set out to get a six-figure advance. Additionally, if you *really do not* earn out your advance by truly offering one hundred,000+ textbooks, your possibility of obtaining this sort of a big advance once more are nil. To succeed when the stakes are this large, you will need to turn out to be an Olympic athlete of a guide marketer. That can be hard to do if you have a day career or a family, never ever head equally. And it is almost not possible if you do not have a considerable chunk of starting money.
&#thirteen

*Do you really require a six-figure book advance?*
&#thirteen

For many authors, five figures are a great deal, specifically for a initial book. Even if it loses funds, that guide will produce the leverage the writer needs to do well in other aspects of her business. (That is 1 cause self-publishing can be such a good selection for business guide authors.) Obtaining a more compact advance nonetheless normally requires work and charges funds, but it is a considerably far more manageable target for a initial time writer without having fifty grand to make investments in acquiring into the bookstores.

Amazon Investment Book Reviews: Have You Been Brainwashed?

Amazon Investment Book Reviews: Have You Been Brainwashed?

Most popular investment books are published for the already rich and famous, by an industry that has become just too good at the business of selling books. Rarely will a publisher take a chance with the work of an unknown author. Certainly, it’s a no brainer to sell a Jim Cramer, Peter Lynch, Robert Kiyosaki, or Maria Bartiromo effort while a uniquely new approach to solving the puzzles of Wall Street, presented by an unknown writer or commentator, requires some major financial risk.

Big publishers want to sell already big names; discovering new ones is not in their wheelhouse. Are they responsible for the problems in the financial markets? Of course not, but they do have a perverse, if indirect, impact. By constantly publishing the same Wall Street friendly message, they contribute to the brainwashing.

Without a wider distribution of new ideas based on old wisdom, Wall Street as usual remains Wall Street as usual and the average investor remains uninformed and ill advised about the dangers of the financial markets. The biggest investment mistake generators are cleverly ignored by most of the books I’ve read about investing— even compounded.

The new generation focus on calendar year instead of market cycle performance; the worship of portfolio market value alone, for all securities, even those purchased solely for income production; the use of gimmicks and products instead of securities for portfolio development; the acceptance of speculations as acceptable, “alternative” investments.

Appreciating the differences between investing and speculating, and learning what to expect from your securities in cyclical markets are things that investors must learn about. Have you been brainwashed? These 15 Amazon members are learning to think outside the Wall Street box, without any help (or investment) from publishers:

1) Super Investing Book: I’ve read a bunch of books on investing and money management, and this is the best, BY FAR!!!!! It’s so good, and refreshing, that I’ve read it twice. (R. Q. A., Bryan, Texas)

2) Back to Basics: This is an eye-opening and intelligent book, which at once offers an analysis of the investment industry and a practical guide for non-professional investors— a clear set of economic principles mixed with clear commonsensical advice. The author— describes how to benefit from the ups and downs. Great book. (Professor P. W., Jerusalem, Israel)

3) The Best Investment Book I Have Ever Read: For skittish investors such as me, [the] unique Working Capital Model reduces the emotional factor by taking the emphasis off market value and focusing on growth of working capital. I implemented and followed the trading strategy myself. You would do well to buy this book and read it two or three times. It will save you [from] a lifetime of mistakes that come from following conventional wisdom. (D. J. F., Peoria, IL)

4) Easy to Understand, Even for Non-Investors: This book seems to be much easier to understand than the stock market trading systems advertised on TV. (P. L., Manchester, CT)

5) Happy User: You can take this system to heart— and to the bank. It works for me. (L. J., Phoenix, AZ)

6) Unique Advice that Stands Out From the Crowd: This is one of two [books] that stand out. Besides being written in an entertaining and irreverent style, it has immensely practical advice. Focus on making money on the market’s inherent volatility vs. trying to guess what’s next. Saves a lot of time and appears to work. (C. M. Rakes, Annandale, VA)

7) An Enlightened Self-Managed Investor: Not only did I identify many many mistakes that I had made thru the years, but the logical approach outlined [in the book] has to make sense to anybody who has tried to get meaningful portfolio guidelines for future investments tailored to individual needs. Great Book! (A. C., West Palm Beach, FL)

8) Right on the Money: I didn’t want to put the book down until I was through. [The] trading strategy is refreshing information that should make a lot of people a lot of money with less risk. (D. M., SC)

9) Investing Made Successful: I heard [the Author] on a talk-radio program and was intrigued by the premise of the book. After reading it, I’m convinced. I’m migrating from mutual funds to individual, high quality equities. [The book] was a slap in the face to make me stop my destructive investing habits. (G. P., Colorado Springs, CO)

10) What a Great Read: This is really an incredible book— [it] has incorporated very creative insight with some highly original thinking to produce one of the best “investing manuals” ever written. I wholeheartedly endorse this book! (“Jointhefreedom”, NM)

11) Courage To Go Against the Pack: The [book] is written in an exciting, enthusiastic, fast moving, style that reads like a novel. Should I ever venture into the stock market, it will be with this book. (S. M., Virginia Beach, VA)

12) L-O-N-G Overdue Investment Strategy Advice: I’ve long been skeptical of the generic advice handed down to me by advisors over the past— I don’t know any wealthy people who do this. Well now I have a frame of reference for my doubts about the system and a simple plan to take control of my investments. (B. S., Vancouver, BC, Canada)

13) A Must Read To Save Your Money From the Sharks: Written in a conversational style with plenty of humor, this book gives you the questions and answers you need to keep and increase monies that are being put away for retirement. I have purchased three books already and am purchasing five more to give to friends and relatives— (R. M., San Jose, CA)

14) Brainwashing of the American Investor: Finally the truth! What an eye-opener to see how the markets, and the people behind the markets, have manipulated the average investor over the years. I highly recommend [this] book for your next financial read. (A. J. L., Ft. Pierce, FL)

15) Profit Like a Trader; Sleep Like an Investor: The technique or strategy presented is almost a “why didn’t I think of that?” The idea is to run your portfolio the same way you would run a business—not a get-rich-quick kind of plan. You just focus on the essential measures of quality. The key is to maintain your plan during the slow times and reign in your greed during the boom times. (P. G., Moon Township, PA)

Today’s publishing industry has a no-risk attitude, and those that are brave enough to deal with new authors are intimidated by the full-return guarantee demands of the bookstores. Stuck in the middle with no choice, most new authors must turn to self-publishing.

The reviews above describe a book that Wall Street wants to keep in the closet, an educational and strategic breakthrough that would have allowed most investors to avoid the bubbles and derivatives that caused our current financial woes. There are probably others— below the 200-level in all Amazon’s best categories.

Photo Book Ideas: Kids Photo Books

Photo Book Ideas: Kids Photo Books

Photo books are a great way to keep your memories together in a form that will last forever. Here are some ideas for fun photo book projects that involve kids.

Pregnancy Memory Books:

There are few times in a person’s life that are more special than awaiting the birth of a child. From that first moment of discovery to when you are holding your newborn child in your arms, life is a blur of preparation and anticipation. Keep your digital camera handy and capture all of the moments big and small as they happen, and when you get a chance to catch your breath, write down all the things that you are encountering and feeling as you travel through this unique experience. Putting together all of your photos and thoughts in the form of a beautiful hard bound book will provide you and your family with a keepsake that will last forever.

Baby’s First Year:

The first year of your child’s life will be full of surprises, but there is one thing that you shouldn’t be surprised by: you will be taking more photos than you ever have in your life. And rightly so! Once you get a minute, after that first birthday party, sit down and go through those photos and grab the very best ones for the book that chronicles your baby’s first year. Ask the grandparents and aunts and uncles for some of their best shots too, and maybe one or two of their favorite stories, and you can put them all together in a book that the whole family will enjoy.

Birthday Books:

Cakes and candles and presents and pointy hats: who doesn’t love a kids’ birthday party? Capture all of the craziness in your digital camera (and ask around for photos of moments you may have missed) and you can put it together into a book that will keep the memories alive forever. If you have more than one child, you can make a bigger book of all the birthdays that happened in the year, and make that your new tradition. Birthday books for all!

Art Books:

The household refrigerator is one of the finest inventions of the 20th century, making everyday household life a lot more convenient. Somewhere along the line this fine appliance became the de facto household art gallery as well, and it has served that purpose well for many families for many years. The problem with the fridge is that it can tend to get a little bit crowded with your little one’s works of art. With a little scanning, and arranging, however, you can create a great book of art that will have the critics raving, and your fridge back to it’s usual job of keeping your food cold.

ABC Books:

The ABC books out there are great and serve a useful purpose, but at this point “A for Apple” has been done to death. Why not create an ABC book for your child that is filled with the people, places and things that he or she is acquainted with? This is a great project to get others, such as Aunt Zelda, involved in too!

Marketing Book Review: Cunningly Clever Marketing

Marketing Book Review: Cunningly Clever Marketing

I recently stumbled across the book Cunningly Clever Marketing when searching for books by Jay Conrad Levinson. Right on the front of Cunningly Clever Marketing’s home page there was a review written by Jay Conrad Levinson stating how great the book was, so I asked myself “Why not give it a try” and ordered my copy from the site.

Shipping

The book made it to my home very quickly, 4 days after I ordered it and it was shipped via FedEx. So far this company is off to a good start. Normally when I order a book directly from its own website it is shipped via USPS and the book comes in destroyed.

Design

I immediately noticed the front cover. It’s a marketing book with a fox on the front of it. Clever marketing cover or stupid designer? I’m going to go with clever marketing cover since the book is called Cunningly Clever Marketing.

The book is very heavy, all 416 pages of it. You could probably use it as a brick to break out someone’s store front window. If you locked your keys in your car and happened to be carrying Cunningly Clever Marketing, don’t call a locksmith. Take that book out and smash through the window. If this book was worth its weight in gold you would be a millionaire!

All kidding aside, you can’t judge a book by its cover (or its weight) and I decided to open the book up and get reading.

Contents

You can tell the book is self published by the massive amounts of spelling errors throughout the book, however that is the only down fall to this marketing book. Andrew Wood is an absolute marketing genius and this book has become my official marketing hand book. The book contains mountains of marketing information compiled into easy to read short chapters. Have a question about direct mail? Read Chapter 63.  Need to come up with a unique selling proposition (USP) for your new business? Read chapter 10.

Cunningly Clever Marketing kicks the standard for all marketing books up a notch. There is simply not another marketing book that I have read that contains as much information into an easy to read book. From unique selling propositions to email marketing to building websites. This book contains it all.

Final Opinion

Cunningly Clever Marketing by Andrew Wood is an absolute must read for anyone in the marketing industry. As I said above, this book has become my marketing hand book, and I’m sure that after you read it, it will become yours as well.
